Sony BDP - S300 to drop Blu-ray price

According to Waynick, the new BDP-S300 will be smaller than the current BDP-S1, coming in about the same size as a typical consumer DVD player, and supporting high-def output up to 1080p resolution. It will also play standard DVDs and (unlike the BDP-S1) will play standard audio CDs. Sony Electronics' president Stan Glasgow has been quoted as saying by the 2007 end-of-year holiday season, Blu-ray player prices should be below $500—perhaps making them slightly cheaper than a PlayStation 3.

Μα εδώ ακόμα περιμένουμε το BDP-S1.....μήπως ξέρει κανένας πότε έρχεται?????Όσο για το BDP-S300 σε κάνα χρόνο και άμα έρθει......

Σωστός. Με όλο τον ορυμαγδό για το PS3 δεν είχα δει ότι δεν υπάρχει PAL έκδοση του S1. Θα βγεί άραγε; Καλύτερα να μας φέρουν τη δεύτερη γενιά απευθείας, όπως έκανε και η Toshiba.

Άντε να αρχίσουν να πέφτουν οι τιμές! Ελπίζω να ακολουθήσουν και οι άλλες εταιρίες με φτηνότερα μοντέλα.

Τελικα αρχιζω να πιστευω οτι η sony εδωσε ρεσιταλ στον πολεμο των format.

Εβγαλε μια ολοκληρωμενη κονσολα και ταυτοχρονως το φθηνοτερο blu ray player(με ζημια φυσικα). Αφησε ομως απ'εξω μερικα πραγματα πχ το upscale των dvds. Ετσι οταν εχουν "ολοι" ενα ps3 σπιτι τους, θα εχουν πεσει και οι τιμες ολων των αλλων blu ray για να αρχισουν να πουλανε και οι αλλες εταιριες, και φθηνοτερα blu ray και καλυτερα(και πιο ολοκληρωμενα).

Seeking to jumpstart sales of next generation high definition movie format Blu-ray Disc, Sony Corp. Feb. 27 announced it would this summer start distributing a new Blu-ray player priced 40% less than its current $999 BDP-S1 player.

The $599 BDP-S300 will feature 1080p (progressive) high-def video resolution via an HDMI connection Sony said is similar to an output signal of 24 frames per second.

The device, which is smaller and lighter than the BDP-S1, also includes a 1080i output for HDTVs not equipped with HDMI.

The BDP-S300’s price is the same as the enhanced edition of Sony’s PlayStation 3 video game console that features a Blu-ray Disc drive. The standard PS3 retails for $499.

Samsung, Pioneer, Philips, Panasonic and Sharp Corp. also market Blu-ray Disc players.

Stan Glasgow, president of Sony Electronics, told the Associated Press he expects the average price of Blu-ray players to fall below $500 by Christmas.

The new device is compatible with most standard DVDs and can play alternative video formats such as MPEG2, MPEG4-AVC and VC1.

It will support AVC-HD discs encoded with xvYCC technology, a new international color standard Sony says expands the current data range of video about 1.8 times.

To the naked eye, video colors would appear more natural and vivid, according to Sony.

The player supports BD-ROM, BD-Java, AVC-HD and DVD playback from DVD/DVD+R/+RW encoded discs, CD playback, as well as MP3 audio files and JPEG images stored on DVD recordable media.

The original BDP-S1 cannot play music CDs.

In addition, the BDP-S300 offers multi-channel linear PCM digital audio output via HDMI, and can decode Dolby Digital Plus, providing optimum surround sound to an appropriately equipped receiver.

The unit has optical and coaxial digital audio out, along with 5.1 channel decoding capability for backward compatibility with existing receivers.

Είναι αυτό που λέει, το πιο τελευταίο χρωματικό πρότυπο. Πρέπει να το υποστηρίζει το player, η τηλεόραση/προβολέας και βέβαια το ίδιο το δισκάκι, ενώ περνάει μόνο μέσα από HDMI 1.3
Γιατί λέει όμως ειδικά AVCHD δεν έχω ιδέα. Πιθανόν να έχει κάποια σχέση με τις ομώνυμες βιντεοκάμερες των Sony & Panasonic.

Η πρώτη κριτική

Περιληπτικά: τους άρεσε η ποιότητα εικόνας την οποία θεωρούν ανώτερη από του PS3, η ευκολία στο setup, το σχετικά γρήγορο φόρτωμα των "απλών" BDs και το καλό upscaling των DVDs.

Δεν τους άρεσε η καθυστέρηση στο ξεκίνημα της αναπαραγωγής σε BD-Java authored ταινίες, αν και πιστεύουν ότι είναι κάτι που μάλλον λύνεται με firmware update όπως στο μεγάλο αδερφάκι BDP-S1.
Γκρινιάζουν επίσης για την έλλειψη δικτύωσης και ενσωματωμένης μνήμης, τη μη συμμόρφωση δηλαδή με το πρότυπο BD Video 1.1 που θα γίνει υποχρεωτική από τον ερχόμενο Νοέμβριο. Τέλος το HDMI είναι 1.1 και όχι 1.3.

Καλή περίπτωση ακούγεται.
