Οι φήμες για την συνέχεια του κλασικού φιλμ του 1987 έτρεξαν τόσο γρήγορα τις τελευταίες ώρες που ανάγκασαν τον άμεσα εμπλεκόμενο, δηλαδή τον σκηνοθέτη Shane Black, να βγει να δηλώσει πως το φιλμ δεν θα είναι reboot, αλλά ένα "ευρηματικό sequel". Όπως είπε εκείνος και ο σεναριογράφος Fred Dekker γνωρίζουν πολύ καλά την πλούσια μυθολογία που συνοδεύει την Predator "σειρά" και θέλουν να κάνουν κάτι που θα τιμήσει τη φήμη της. Ο Black είπε πως δεν είναι fan των reboots γενικότερα και πως μπορεί να τον φανταστεί να δοκιμάζει καλύτερα κάτι σ' ένα "ευρηματικό sequel", κάτι που το προτιμά αντί να πατήσει πάνω στο concept και να πατήσει απλά το restart. Και μόνο για την δουλειά του στο Iron Man 3 έχουμε να πούμε πως το Predator είναι σε πολύ καλά χέρια.

Shane Black confirms that his Predator will be a sequel

Big news broke yesterday with the reveal that Shane Black has plans to "reboot" 20th Century Fox's Predator. Today, the Iron Man 3 writer and director (not to mention star of the John McTiernan original) tells Collider that his film does, indeed, tie to franchise continuity.

"Why start over, when you've all this rich mythology yet to mine?" Black says, adding that he can, "...really get behind inventive sequels."

Black will be directing the new film and writing the treatment, which will then be scripted in full by Fred Dekker (with whom Black worked on Monster Squad).

The 1987 original was directed by John McTiernan and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of a United States special forces team that comes under attack from an alien entity that prizes the thrill of the hunt above all else. It was followed by a direct sequel, Predator 2, in 1990 before crossing over with Fox's Alien franchise for two additional sequels, Alien vs. Predator and AvP: Requiem. In 2010, Nimrod Antal helmed a reboot with a new feature, Predators.

John Davis is attached to produce with Matt Reilly overseeing for Fox and Ira Napoliello overseeing for Davis Entertainment.

Predator sequel still on track with Shane Black, script nearly complete

A year ago, the news broke that Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon) had targeted a reworking/”inventive sequel” to 20th Century Fox’s Predator. So what progress has been made in the year since? According to Collider‘s recent interview with producer John Davis, writer/director (not to mention co-star of John McTiernan’s original) Black is still fully engaged to making the Predator sequel, despite having filmed the 1970’s-set noir The Nice Guys with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe and the Amazon spaghetti western pilot “Edge” in the interim.

“Shane shot a movie and he’s doing a pilot now, but I’ve read a lot of his script and I think it’s genius,” Davis said. “I think it’s genius and I think it’s entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way; looking at it from a different light. He’s just an amazing writer-director. He’s got a way of looking at this that makes you excited again. I love this franchise. It was the first movie I ever did. I remember in being in the jungle with Arnold [Schwarzenegger] as a 28-year-old and going, ‘This is a fun business!’…Shane’s amazing. He’s an amazing storyteller.”

Black will be directing the new film and is writing the treatment that will tie in to franchise continuity, with the full script being supplied by his longtime pal Fred Dekker, with whom Black worked on Monster Squad.

“Shane’s got a writing partner, Fred Dekker,” Davis continued. “They’ve been doing it together and Fred’s great. The two of them together, they’ve been in the business for a long time, but the writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I’m telling you you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’ I mean he’s the guy who wrote ‘Iron Man 3.'”

Predator sequel script completed

Last summer, it was announced that director Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon) and his The Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker were working on an “inventive sequel” to 20th Century Fox’s Predator. Now, Dekker has revealed on his Facebook (via AVPGalaxy.net) that the script for the film has been completed and turned in.

Details on the film are currently under wraps but producer John Davis previously told Collider: “The writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I’m telling you you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’”

You never saw this Predator teaser image coming

Last November, it was revealed that the script for the “inventive sequel” to 20th Century Fox’s Predator had been completed and turned in. Director Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon) and his The Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker have been working on a sequel since 2014.

Now, the studio has revealed this new Predator teaser image on the franchise’s official Facebook page with the caption, “Here we go again, bro.” The Predator teaser image also includes the title “The Predator,” which may or may not be what the studio will go with.

Πέρα από το νεο look, ο σκηνοθέτης της ταινίας σημειώνει ότι το facelift δεν οφείλεται στο ότι έχασε ένα στοίχημα με το μικρό του γιο και πρέπει πάση θυσία να γίνει redesign αλλά εξυπηρετεί κάποιον σκοπό. Υπόσχεται νέα προοπτική στο όλο εγχείρημα, ένα άξιο reboot.

Ο Άρνι ακόμα να επαληθευτεί ενώ (μάλλον) ο 50 cent έχει ρόλο αξιώσεων στην ταινία.

The Predator would feature an old Arnold Schwarzenegger, If he appears…

Rumors have swirled for some time now about Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to the world of Predator with Shane Black’s upcoming reboot of the franchise, though no confirmation has ever come about. Speaking with CraveOnline, Black confirmed some details on the film, like its modern day seting, meaning that, like Terminator Genisys, should Schwarzenegger return, he’ll be back as “Old Arnold.”

“These things all happened in 1990,” Black says of the events in the first two Predator movies. “But now it’s 25 years later. So in other words, if Arnold [Schwarzenegger]’s in it – which I’m not allowed to discuss [laughs] – he would be old Arnold.”

Schwarzenegger appeared as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer in John McTiernan’s original film where he lead a United States special forces team that came under attack from an alien entity that prizes the thrill of the hunt above all else.

Black also said that the title for the film, The Predator, has significance in the film’s script,

“There is a reference in the script as to why that makes sense, but I’m not really supposed to talk about it.”

Production on The Predator is expected to begin this fall for a March 2, 2018 release.

Benicio Del Toro in talks for new Predator movie

Deadline brings word that Benicio Del Toro is in talks to star in 20th Century Fox‘s new Predator movie, a reboot of the action franchise. Del Toro is no stranger to starring in sci-fi action fair, having appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Boyd Holbrook set for Benicio Del Toro Predator role

Although the Academy Award winner was previously said to be in talks for the film, The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Benicio Del Toro has exited 20th Century Fox‘s new Predator movie. The Benicio Del Toro Predator role will instead go to Narcos star Boyd Holbrook. Holbrook is also starring in the studio’s upcoming Marvel Comics film, Logan. No reason was given for Del Toro’s exit. It is easy to imagine that his upcoming schedule is quite busy, however, as he now has potentially-recurring roles in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in the Star Wars saga. That’s in addition to his upcoming return as Alejandro in the upcoming Sicario sequel, Soldado.

Olivia Munn joins Shane Black’s The Predator

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox‘s new Predator movie has brought in Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse, “The Newsroom”) to join Narcos star Boyd Holbrook. Munn will be playing a scientist opposite Holbrook’s special forces commando. The trade has also revealed that the harsh setting where all the action and terror will play out will be… suburbia. Yes, it will be a Predator slicing and dicing his way through schoolyards, church picnics and Walmarts. Didn’t see that coming!

Moonlight’s Trevante Rhodes cast in new Predator movie

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Trevante Rhodes of Moonlight has joined the cast of the upcoming Predator film from director Shane Black. Rhodes will play a former Marine alongside Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, Logan). Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse) is also set to star.

Keegan-Michael Key joins Shane Black’s The Predator

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu, Key & Peele) has joined the cast of the upcoming Predator film from director Shane Black. Key will play a man who helps Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn and Trevante Rhodes in their effort to bring down the iconic space baddie. The comedic actor will next play a leading role in Joe Swanberg’s Win It All opposite Jake Johnson.

Sterling K. Brown joins Shane Black’s The Predator

The cast of Shane Black’s The Predator continues to come together today as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Sterling K. Brown (The People vs. O.J. Simpson, This is Us) is in talks to join the cast of the franchise sequel. The casting would place Sterling K. Brown as a government agent.

Thomas Jane joins The Predator cast

The Predator cast continues to grow rapidly as filming is expected to start in February in Vancouver. The Hollywood Reporter says that Thomas Jane (Hung, The Punisher) will be joining director Shane Black’s Predator cast.

The Predator filming begins today, R rating confirmed

Director Shane Black has taken to Twitter to confirm not only that shooting has begun on The Predator, but that the sequel will most definitely have an R rating. The blood-spattered Predator filming will take place in Vancouver.
