Panasonic is reducing the cost of its sole Blu-ray player, the BD10A, by 50 per cent across Europe and the US, to counter price cuts from Toshiba for HD DVD. Newly upgraded, the BD10A model offers full support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD, and also offers support for CD playback.
Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, VP of corporate development for Panasonic’s North American Blu-ray Disc Group, says “We hope this does something. We’re doing our part.”
In the US, the newly priced model will be bundled with five BD discs: Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl and sequel Dead Man’s Chest, The Transporter, Fantastic Four and Crash.
Gene Kelsey, VP of Panasonic’s entertainment group enthused: “we are thrilled to offer five Blu-ray mega hits with the purchase of the BD10A. High-definition entertainment is a truly unique experience and nothing powers the experience like Blu-ray.”
