The biggest difference between Waymo and Tesla, apart from the fact that one has a safety driver, is the zone of operation. Tesla boasts a map that encompasses parts of Marin, the East Bay (yes, it can go on bridges), and all the way down to San Jose, and unlike Waymo, it hits the freeways.

We booked a ride in Tesla’s Robotaxi, then raced it against a Waymo. Guess which won?

Waymo, a company with driverless ride-share services in five U.S. cities, is expanding to Dallas and plans to launch its service in 2026.

There was no payment setup required, as I already have a Tesla app for my car with a credit card and ID uploaded. There was a feedback page, and I rated the ride 5 lightning bolts. It had a tip page, but when you click, it tells you this is a joke. There are no human drivers, so no tips are required.

The ride cost less than $6. I'd say an Uber to the same destination would be roughly $10 usually.

Tesla recently started offering autonomous rides in the company's birthplace of, San Carlos. I took it for a ride. Here's my review.

The Arizona Department of Transportation cleared Tesla to launch the semiautonomous ride-hailing service. Tesla plans to roll out vehicles with safety drivers in the Phoenix metro area, according to the ADOT.

Tesla launched its robotaxi service in late June in Austin, Texas.

The ride-hailing operation expanded to the San Francisco Bay Area, with safety drivers.

Earlier this month, Nevada's Department of Motor Vehicles OK'd Tesla plans to test its robotaxi service in the state, with expectations that they'll be in Las Vegas soon.
