More cryptic Logan photos released, Boyd Holbrook character revealed

UPDATE: Another new photo has debuted from the account, featuring star Boyd Holbrook and simply captioned “Pierce.” This almost certainly means Holbrook is playing “Donald Pierce” in the film, a mutant who was a former member of the Hellfire Club and later a leader of The Reavers, a group of cyborg mutants previously rumored to appear in the film. It’s unclear what they mean, but they’re certainly preparing you for a post-Apocalyptic party, complete with a limo (potentially Logan’s vehicle of choice) and a wild man in a suit. A Reaver takes aim in a new Logan image!

As it has been doing all week, the Logan movie Instagram has just posted another black and white image from the set of the upcoming Wolverine sequel. This one reveals a first look at one of the film’s Reaver characters who, Marvel fans will recall, have been a thorn in the side of mutants since their debut back in 1988’s “Uncanny X-Men” #229. A gang of mercenaries, the Reavers in the comics have been fitted with all sorts of cybernetic upgrades, making them particularly deadly foes. Check out the new shot below.

Director James Mangold talks Logan trailer

Yesterday, the Logan trailer rocked the internet and director James Mangold has talked to Empire about the trailer, specifically some interesting info about Wolverine’s diminished healing factor.

“We questioned whether Logan’s healing factor causes him to heal without even a scar,” Mangold said. “We imagined that it may have when he was younger, but with age, he’s getting older and ailing. Perhaps his healing factor no longer produces baby-soft skin. So we imagined he heals quickly, still, but it leaves a scar. The simple idea was that his body would start to get a little more ravaged with a kind of tattooing of past battles, lacerations that remain of previous conflicts.”

Mangold also refused to confirm whether the mysterious little girl played by Dafne Keen is Laura/X-23, the female clone of Logan, though he hinted that the rumors could be true.

“I think I will just let speculation run rampant about that,” stated Mangold. “I think what this film is about in many ways is family. From there out I’d let everyone figure out what we’re up to on their own, at least at this early stage. I’m not here today to confirm or deny anything. I think it’s great that everyone’s speculating and I think it reveals how smart the audience is, many of the fans, about these characters. I don’t think they’re on the wrong track.”

Finally, he commented on the shocking R-rated moment in the international trailer where Wolverine shoves his claws right through a guy’s brain.

“[This represents] to me the kind of aggressive, classical Wolverine action that we want in the movie – more of something that fans have been asking for, for a really long time,” Mangold added. “We’ve been limited in one way or another from giving it to them, but I think we’ve got the go-ahead to really go for it on this picture. So we’re really trying to deliver what folks have always imagined those kind of battles would look like. There is a lot of high-octane action in the movie. We’re just trying to do it very differently and very viscerally.”

X-23 officially confirmed for Logan

Way back in April, SuperHeroHype broke the news that the upcoming Logan movie would feature X-23. While everything we’ve seen since then has suggested as such, 20th Century Fox finally brings official confirmation today with a new Instagram post showing off actress Dafne Keen as Laura. Laura Kinney, as Marvel fans are well aware, is the name that X-23 later took.

X-23 made her comic book debut in 2004, after originally being conceived and debuting in the animated series X-Men: Evolution. Her origins stem from a group attempting to replicate the Weapon X program, which gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton, but who decided to go in a different direction and attempt to clone Wolverine outright. The first 22 attempts at cloning Logan failed, which is where the young mutant received her code name after being the first success.

Like Wolverine, X-23 has superhuman strength, reflexes, agility, and a healing factor. The primary difference in the pair is X-23 has only two claws on her hands, with an extra that can be popped out of each of her feet. Throughout her publication history, X-23 has been a loner, a member of the X-Men and X-Force, and has currently taken on the mantle of Wolverine following the hero’s death.

The design features Hugh Jackman‘s title mutant clutching young actress Dafne Keen’s Laura.
