It's Official - Ridley Scott is Directing the Alien Prequel!

Variety is reporting that Ridley Scott is officially attached to return as the director of an Alien prequel being written by newcomer Jon Spaihts. Spaihts got the job after pitching the studio and Scott Free Production, who will also produce the film. The story is being setup to precede Ridley's 1979 film, but as for what exactly will take place, those details are being kept under wraps at the moment.

Spierig Brothers Set to Bring Us 'Captain Blood' in Space?!

Variety announces that Noyce is off the project and has been replaced by Michael and Peter Spierig, the two German brothers behind the upcoming Daybreakers vampire movie. But there's a twist - the Spierig's Captain Blood will be set in space.

Warner Brothers heard numerous tired pitches off and on, but "when I took a look at [the Spierig's] animatic depiction of a pirate battle in space, it had such a distinctive visual look to it that I said, 'Great, I get it'," producer Bill Gerber explained.

Jerry Bruckheimer picks up rights to IDW comic World War Robot

Producer Bruckheimer has picked up the rights to IDW (who also published 30 Days of Night) comic World War Robot.

In World War Robot, a dwindling band of humans and robots face off in a battle that will likely end humanity as we know it... on Earth, on the Moon, and on Mars, too. Sounds post apocalyptic! No word on a director or whose penning the adaptation. [via Variety]

Ηρθε στη δημοσιότητα η πρώτη φωτογραφία που εικονίζει το Sylvester Stallone και το Μickey Rourke σε σκηνή από τη νέα τους ταινία ''The Expendables'' ( ''Oι Αναλώσιμοι''). Πρόκειται γιά ταινία δράσης, με θέμα μια ομάδα μισθοφόρων που πηγαίνει στη Νότια Αμερική... γιά να ανατρέψει έναν δικτάτορα.

Ο Stallone είναι επίσης ο σεναριογράφος και ο σκηνοθέτης του φιλμ. Όσο γιά τον Mickey Rourke, αυτός υποδύεται έναν έμπορο όπλων που παράλληλα είναι και καλλιτέχνης στη δημιουργία τατουάζ. Το υπόλοιπο καστ περιλαμβάνει τους Jason Statham, Jet Li και Eric Roberts.

Saw VII to Be in 3D

Saw VII (the next sequel due out in 2010) will be in 3D. Apparently co-writer Marcus Dunstan (who directed The Collector) told them that they've decided to go 3D starting with the seventh Saw movie and have been working in advance to prepare the technical side of it.

Universal Wants Marc Webb for Another Jesus Christ Superstar?

Even more musicals from Universal? The Risky Biz Blog is reporting that Universal is looking to develop a remake of Jesus Christ Superstar, the Broadway musical turned movie from the 70's. The studio has been talking with 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb (who blogged for us recently) because of his success with that movie and his music video background. Although they're also saying that "the studio and Webb are not in active negotiations at the moment." The good news is that Universal is looking at other directors as well - because the truth is that I really don't want Webb to follow-up 500 Days with a musical.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a musical that presents the last few weeks of Christ's life, told in an anachronistic manner. It highlights the political and interpersonal struggles of Judas Iscariot and Jesus and even includes hippies as well as other modern "attitudes and sensibilities." Apparently Webb is actually a fan of Jesus Christ Superstar and has been interested in working on a rock opera version of it that "mixes spiritual uplift with the pop-music type." Maybe it's just me, but this is one of those kind of movies where I probably won't care about it until I see a trailer, as I'm don't really care about the original musical at all. But who knows?

Whatever Webb ends up directing next, whether it's Jesus Christ Superstar or The Spectacular Now, I'm sure I'll follow it closely. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of musicals, I am a big fan of Marc Webb, and not just because he blogged for us. We'll let you know what happens with him next and this musical.

Avatar 3D Team Doing Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D

ShockTillYouDrop.com spoke with actress Milla Jovovich earlier today and got as much information out of her as possible about her plans to return to the "Resident Evil" franchise with fiance/director Paul W.S. Anderson. One little hint she dropped was that Anderson had signed a deal with James Cameron's 3D team, who are currently doing the anticipated Avatar, to handle the 3D duties on the fourth installment.

David Twohy on Continuing the Riddick Saga

I've sketched out two ideas for the next installment," he told us during the exclusive interview. "Vin and I have decided on one approach of those two, and there's some interest at the studio level but it would be as a PG-13 film, and we don't want to do that anymore. That's one of the concessions we thought we made with 'Riddick' that we shouldn't have made. We also spent too much money and we were too ambitions, so yes, if we do go back to a third one, it will be focused again, hopefully again the same way that 'Pitch Black' was, and we'll spend less money doing it. We're just trying to figure out how much less we can do it for, because I don't think Vin is going to work for scale again."

"The third movie would be more modestly-scaled and it would probably feel more like 'Pitch Black' then 'Chronicles'," he continued. "It will always be Riddick-centric. If the question is whether it will be more like the first one than the second one, the difference is that yeah, you can sell it on its creatures and say 'This is a creature fest and we're going to go out as us vs. the creatures' but that's like a lot of different movies. However, the hallmark of a good movie, and I think 'Pitch Black' is a good movie, is that even if you took the creatures out of the picture, you'd still have some pretty interesting character dynamics going on within that group, and it's almost like you can tell the same story without the creature or substitute some other external pressure on the group, because there were internal pressures as well that were interesting. So was it really a creature feature? It had the hallmarks of it, the trappings of a creature movie, but it also had pretty good characters."

TITANIC IN 3D CONFIRMED

James Cameron's intentions to convert Terminator 2 into 3D adventure and he also hinted doing so with Titanic on Comic Con.

This time he confirms already working on Titanic and that this is going to be his next project:

"We're going to do Titanic in 3-D! We've already done a 90 second clip of it and it's phenomenal and gorgeous, so that's going to be the project for next year. It's a conversion of it, not native photography; we can't go back."

Steven Spielberg is Directing a Remake of 'Harvey' Next

Ο διάσημος σκηνοθέτης Στίβεν Σπίλμπεργκ σκοπεύει να σκηνοθετήσει ένα ριμέικ της ταινίας Harvey του 1950, στην οποία πρωταγωνιστούσε ο Τζέιμς Στιούαρτ.

Σύμφωνα με την υπόθεση, ο πρωταγωνιστής της ταινίας υποστηρίζει ότι ο καλύτερός του φίλος είναι ένας γιγαντιαίος... λαγός που μόνο ο ίδιος μπορεί να δει.

Η αρχική ταινία βασίζεται στο βραβευμένο με Πούλιτζερ ομώνυμο θεατρικό έργο της Μέρι Τσέις.

Εκπρόσωπος της Fox ανακοίνωσε ότι η ταινία θα βρίσκεται στους αμερικανικούς κινηματογράφους μέχρι το τέλος του 2010.

Phoenix Pictures Activates Machines

Phoenix Pictures (upcoming Shutter Island) has bought Troy Nixey's family fantasy Simple Machines for Nixey to direct after he has finished shooting Don't Be Afraid of the Dark this summer.

Variety says Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and Brad Fischer will produce, with CHUD.com creator Nick Nunziata co-producing.

The story centers on a reclusive young inventor who must save his beloved creation from an evil industrialist before he uses it to corrupt the world.

The deal marks the second collaboration between Phoenix and Nixey. Phoenix previously acquired Nixey's graphic novel "Trout," which Laeta Kalogridis is adapting for the screen.

Μαζί στη μεγάλη οθόνη McConaughey και Mendes;

Ο Matthew McConaughey και η Eva Mendes βρίσκονται σε διαπραγματεύσεις για να συμμετάσχουν στην ταινία "Southband", την σκηνοθεσία της οποίας θα αναλάβει ο Jonathan Jakubowicz.

Η παραγωγή της ταινίας, το σενάριο της οποίας υπογράφει ο Peter Craig, έχει προγραμματιστεί να ξεκινήσει τον ερχόμενο Σεπτέμβριο. Εάν συμφωνήσει τελικά να συμμετάσχει στην ταινία ο McConaughey θα υποδυθεί το ρόλο ενός συνοριοφύλακα. Η Mendes από την πλευρά της θα ενσαρκώσει το ρόλο μίας πανέμορφης μεξικανής.

Ο McConaughey πρόσφατα επέστρεψε στη μεγάλη οθόνη με την ταινία "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past", στην οποία συμμετείχαν ακόμα ο Michael Douglas και η Jennifer Garner.

Η Mendes από την πλευρά της πρόσφατα ολοκλήρωσε την ταινία "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans", την σκηνοθεσία της οποίας έχει αναλάβει ο Werner Herzog.

Η Jennifer Aniston σύμφωνα με τα δημοσιεύματα θα πρωταγωνιστήσει στην ταινία "Pumas".

Το σενάριο της ταινίας επικεντρώνεται σε δύο γυναίκες που έχουν ως χόμπι να βγαίνουν ραντεβού με μικρότερους άντρες. Ο Wayne McClammy βρίσκεται σε συζητήσεις για να αναλάβει την σκηνοθεσία της ταινίας.
