Hugh Jackman to Become Avon Man

20th Century Fox has acquired Avon Man, a comedy pitch from Hitch writer Kevin Bisch, as a star vehicle for Hugh Jackman, reports Variety.

Bisch will write the script. Jackman and Seed Productions partner John Palermo will produce, along with Gary Foster at Krasnoff Foster Entertainment.

The story follows men laid off from an auto dealership. One is reluctantly recruited into becoming an Avon salesman, and while the experience is initially emasculating, he uses his charm and good looks to become a top seller.

The car salesman sets out to save his financially strapped family and town by conscripting his buddies into the makeup business to win a regional contest.

Και τρίτη ταινία Μπρίτζετ Τζόουνς «στα σκαριά»

Τρίτη ταινία με ηρωίδα την Μπρίτζετ Τζόουνς ετοιμάζει η εταιρεία παραγωγής Working Title. Δεν είναι βέβαιο εάν η Ρενέ Ζελβέγκερ θα δεχθεί να επαναλάβει τον πολύ επιτυχημένο ρόλο της για τρίτη φορά.

Η εταιρεία ανακοίνωσε ότι το σχέδιο βρίσκεται σε «πολύ πρώιμο στάδιο» και ότι δεν έχει γίνει ακόμα η επιλογή σεναριογράφου ή σκηνοθέτη.

Σύμφωνα με το περιοδικό Variety, η ταινία θα μπορούσε να βασιστεί στις στήλες που έγραψε η Έλεν Φίλντινγκ για την εφημερίδα The Independent, ανάμεσα στο 2005 και το 2006.

Σε αυτές της στήλες η Μπρίτζετ, τώρα στα 40 της, προσπαθεί να κάνει παιδί.

Η εταιρεία παραγωγής ελπίζει ότι η Ρενέ Ζελβέγκερ θα θελήσει να επαναλάβει έναν από τους πλέον επιτυχημένους ρόλους της, κάτι που είναι πολύ πιθανό να κάνει. Πιθανό θεωρείται να επαναλάβουν τους ρόλους τους οι Κόλιν Φερθ και Χιου Γκραντ.

Willem Dafoe Joining Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars

Veteran actor Willem Dafoe is the latest to join the cast of Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars movie in development at Disney/Pixar. In the story of a Civil War soldier transported to the red planet where warring races vie for control, Dafoe will play Tars Tarkas, a leader of the Thark race who knows that the only way his people can survive is if they turn away from war, a position that may cost him dearly. Jim Morris and Colin Wilson are producing John Carter, which will start shooting in early 2010.

Skarsgard and Bosworth Cast in Rod Lurie's Straw Dogs

We've already heard quite a bit about this Straw Dogs remake before. James Marsden is set to star and Nothing But the Truth director Rod Lurie wrote the screenplay and is directing. And now Alexander Skarsgard has joined the cast as well as Kate Bosworth. Marsden plays a Hollywood screenwriter who relocates with his wife to her hometown in Mississippi. Bosworth plays the wife, who left the South to become an actress and returns home so her husband can finish his script in quiet. Skarsgard plays her high school boyfriend, an ex-football hero who sees the return of his former girlfriend as a way to reclaim glory.

Boom! Studios has provided ShockTillYouDrop.com with an exclusive first look at the forthcoming tie-in graphic novel they're at work on for the horror film Jennifer's Body. The site has the first nine pages, illustrated by Jim Mahfood ("Clerks"), as well as two covers: One for the direct market by Eric Jones (which will be available only in comic specialty stores), the other by Cho for the mass market (Barnes & Noble, Border, et al.).

Russell Crowe Interested in Another Master & Commander?!

Over on the Associated Press, they're reporting that Russell Crowe is "in the early stages of negotiations" to reprise his role as the British sea captain Jack Aubrey in another Master & Commander movie. Apparently Crowe told the AP at a cricket match that a script based mostly on the eleventh novel of Patrick O'Brian's 20-novel series, titled The Reverse of the Medal, has been written, but that discussions were only at a very early stage. "There's still a long way to go," he told them. According to Crowe, they're still trying to secure the rights to the novel, which sees Aubrey dealing with money problems this time around.

Stuart Beattie Talks About His 'Halo: Fall of Reach' Movie

If anyone remembers, last year, concept art that was attached to a Halo screenplay called Halo: Fall of Reach written by Pirates of the Caribbean writer Stuart Beattie ended up on the web. It was Beattie's adaptation of the Halo book of the same name that he wrote on his own during the writer's strike for free just because he loves the Halo franchise and wanted to one day see a movie actually get made. SciFi Wire caught up with Beattie recently and talked with him about Halo: Fall of Reach and the latest developments. "I really believe a Halo movie would just be awesome, especially this Halo movie." Maybe there is hope?

The Rebuilding of Hobbiton Has Begun!

TheOneRing.net reports that rebuilding of Hobbiton has begun for the filming of The Hobbit and its sequel. The first film is scheduled for a December 2011 release, followed by the second film in December of 2012. The site says:

The re-building of Hobbiton has begun, with the planting of hedgerows and fruit trees. An extension to the path that passes in front of Bag End has been marked out also. There will be several new Hobbit holes dotted along its length.

Nephilim (2010)

If born, the Nephilim will prevail over all mortals, and wreak unmitigated havoc and unstoppable evil. With the birth of Nephilim the final battle for eternity would commence.

DiCaprio Hires a Screenwriter for His Twilight Zone Movie

It was first announced more than a year ago that Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way would be bringing us a new Twilight Zone movie. Variety announces today they've brought on Rand Ravich (The Astronaut's Wife, NBC's "Life") to write a script based on the iconic TV series. No other details were revealed, however the project seems to still be set up at Warner Brothers. Word from the original announcement last year is that this version will have "one continuing story line based on one or more episodes." But which episodes? That's what I want to know! Rod Serling's original "Twilight Zone" series ran for five seasons from 1959.

Voltron Movie in Development Again with Dark Knight Producer

THR's Risky Biz Blog announces that the live-action rights to a Voltron movie have switched owners. Charles Roven (The Dark Knight), Richard Suckle (The International) and Steve Alexander are the new producers on this. They replace Mark Gordon who had brought on Justin Marks, the screenwriter responsible for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Marks had written a Voltron script that focused on an alien invasion in an apocalyptic North America. The new owners will restart development on this from scratch and I believe will throw out Marks' screenplay.

Sci-Fi Adventure Novel Discipline to the Big Screen

David Permut and Steve Lee Jones will produce a feature version of Paco Ahlgren's sci-fi adventure novel "Discipline," says Variety.

The story, published last year as Ahlgren's first novel, centers on a man's psychological battle with an enemy he cannot see. The outcome determines the past, present and future of human existence

Απειλεί να αποσύρει την ταινία του ο Κεν Λόουτς

Ο διάσημος σκηνοθέτης και πολιτικός ακτιβιστής Κεν Λόουτς απείλησε να αποσύρει την ταινία του «Looking for Eric» από το διεθνές φεστιβάλ κινηματογράφου της Μελβούρνης, σε ένδειξη διαμαρτυρίας για το γεγονός ότι τη χορηγία του έχει αναλάβει μεταξύ άλλων το κράτος του Ισραήλ, όπως αναφέρει το Σάββατο η εφημερίδα The Age.

Ο Λόουτς, η ταινία του οποίου «Ο Άνεμος Χορεύει το Κριθάρι» είχε κερδίσει το Χρυσό Φοίνικα στο Φεστιβάλ των Καννών το 2006, έγραψε επιστολή στον διευθυντή του φεστιβάλ της Μελβούρνης Roger Moore προειδοποιώντας ότι θα αποσύρει το έργο του.

Ο Λόουτς έγραψε, σύμφωνα με την εφημερίδα, ότι «Παλαιστίνιοι, ανάμεσά τους καλλιτέχνες και ακαδημαϊκοί, έχουν απευθύνει έκκληση για μποϊκοτάζ σε γεγονότα τα οποία υποστηρίζει το [κράτος του] Ισραήλ».

Το μποϊκοτάζ, που έχει στόχο όχι τους ανεξάρτητους Ισραηλινούς κινηματογραφιστές, σκηνοθέτες και καλλιτέχνες και τα έργα τους, αλλά «το κράτος του Ισραήλ», αποτελεί διαμαρτυρία, συνέχισε ο Λόουτς, για «την παράνομη κατοχή Παλαιστινιακής γης, την καταστροφή σπιτιών, καλλιεργειών» και άλλων, καθώς και «τις σφαγές στη Γάζα».

Ήδη στο φεστιβάλ είχε προκληθεί ένταση νωρίτερα αυτήν την εβδομάδα όταν Κινέζοι αξιωματούχοι επιχείρησαν να εμποδίσουν την προβολή ενός ντοκιμαντέρ με θέμα έναν Ουιγούρο ακτιβιστή. Ο Moore αρνήθηκε να εξαιρέσει την ταινία «Ten Conditions of Love», ενώ δήλωσε ότι δε θα εξετάσει το αίτημα του Λόουτς. «Δε θα το κάνω [...]. Είναι σαν να υποκύπτω σε εκβιασμό», είπε χαρακτηριστικά.

Ο 73χρονος Λόουτς είχε καταφέρει τον Μάιο να αποσυρθεί παρόμοιο κρατικό πρόγραμμα χορηγίας του διεθνούς φεστιβάλ κινηματογράφου του Εδιμβούργου, απειλώντας να το μποϊκοτάρει εάν δεν επέστρεφε τα κεφάλαια από μέρους του Ισραήλ.

Stuart Beattie on What to Expect in His New Tarzan Movie

Stuart Beattie is in the works is Tarzan: Lord of the Jungle, another live-action Tarzan movie for Stephen Sommers to eventually direct.

Collider caught up with Beattie and talked with him about a lot of his projects, but this is one in particular that we haven't heard much of recently. Additionally, Beattie talks quite a bit about the script, the setting and details of the story, and just what we can expect. As for its status, he explains that Warner Brothers is currently fine tuning the budget.

Tarzan is, I think, probably the most filmed story of all, so our belief in doing a Tarzan movie today was you couldn't go tell the raised by gorillas and loincloths and 'Me: Tarzan and You: Jane'-story because it's been done so much and it's just not interesting anymore. So it was much more big romantic action-adventure film with supernatural stuff and a witch doctor and lots of really fun stuff. And mythic Africa, like that deep dark heart of Africa stuff, you know, where the trees are twice as big and the vines stretched forever and the canopy is a whole world in itself and just really cool looking place to spend a couple of hours."
