HDI Dune would like to announce its new strategy of hardware upgrade of all the products manufactured in Taiwan.
We would like to inform our users that for all the new models of our players including Dune HD Max, Dune HD Smart B1 / H1 / D1, in the future they will be able to upgrade the main boards of these players in any of our authorized service centers (distributor place in corresp. country) with changing the current main board on 8642 chip to the board with 8646 chip. Of course, all the advantages of 8646 architecture will be available to our users this way: including 1Gbit Ethernet and faster Blu-ray discs and images loading because of the 800MHz speed of those new chips.
For Dune HD Max users this upgrade will mean a change of the main board in the unit provided by a customer. For Dune HD Smart players in good conditions it will be just substituting H1 / B1 / D1 module to H2 / B2 / D2 one (on 8646 chip) respectively (no upgrading work needed). And of course such upgrade for any of the models will be significantly cheaper than buying a new player.
Please also note, as manufacturing just one board is much easier and faster procedure than manufacturing an entire new player we are sure that our users making the pointed upgrade for Dune HD Max player will be the first owners of the solution based on the 8646 chip (also comparing with the future products on this chip from our competitors). And the modules upgrade for Dune HD Smart will be available not later than the new competitive players on the same chip.
We would like to note that according to our expectation the first mass production 8646 chips should be available from the manufacturer around Q1 2011 (definitely not in 2010!).
But whatever would be the real date of the new chips availability, we can assure our users that the pointed upgrade will be available during 1 month after Sigma Designs starts supplying the 8646 chips.
And most importantly HDI Dune is intending to keep the same tactics in the future when any new interesting models of the chips from Sigma Designs are coming. All our customers for the models made in Taiwan (currently Max and Smart line) should be sure that we'll be supporting them all the time to ensure that they always have the most up to date equipment at their home with minimal expenses.
