First Look: Benicio Del Toro as the Wolfman!

This pose was a jokey homage to the classic Universal Wolfman/Famous Monsters Magazine-era style, but seeing Benicio getting "wolfy" for the first time, even in jest, gave us chills. It was our first glimpse of what we could expect from this amazingly original and gifted actor.

This Wolfman adaptation was written by Andrew Kevin Walker and apparently has some frightening new twists from the original version from 1941. He has added several characters and plot points to take advantage of new visual effects technology and I'm sure Rick Baker as well. Shooting is beginning this December with a November 14, 2008 release date.

Joseph Kosinski Directing Tron - The Next Chapter

First off, Tron: The Next Chapter is NOT the official name, that's just what it's being referred to. Officially the title right now is just Tron and it's supposedly "the next chapter" of the classic 1982 film (of the same name). Commercial director Joseph Kosinski has been set to direct and Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, will be producing. What is this and why are the working on a sequel/remake? Unfortunately we don't have the answer to those important questions, but we'll try and bring as much information out as possible.

One of the aspects Kosinski will be monitoring is the visual development of the project as well as input on the script, which is being written by "Lost" writers Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Since the original Tron was such a groundbreaking movie because of its CGI, I'm certain that they're pushing for an equal change with this Tron sequel. It's unlikely they'll achieve anything that extraordinary, but who really knows, they might have something big up their sleeves.

One sequence that Kosinski is currently working on involves the Light Cycles in order to work out his vision for the film. I'd say that's a good place to start. I have a soft spot for Tron being a video game and movie geek myself, and yet I'm not sure what to think of this. I can't really see it being that groundbreaking, but I'll reserve my thoughts until we actually know more.



Starship Troopers Might Use Some More Bug Spray ! 3rd Sequel Planned

According to Moviehole.net, a third Starship Troopers movie is being planned. Ed Neumeier will be writing and directing the third chapter. Neumeier has never directed a movie, but his writing credentials include the first two Starship Troopers films, Robocop and Anacondas 2. Casper Van Dien is rumored to return and wear the uniform of Colonel John Rico yet again. I guess we can expect new bugs, more satire, and a new weapon from the Federation!

Ο Thor – o Βίκινγκ θεός με το μεγάλο σφυρί- είναι ο επόμενος υπερήρωας κόμικ που θα…πάει στο Hollywood. Σκηνοθέτης της ταινίας –μεταφοράς του ήρωα της Marvel είναι ο Matthew Vaughn.

Ένα από τα πιο αξιόλογα σημεία της παραγωγής είναι το cast της ταινίας που ανακοίνωσαν η Marvel Studios και η Paramount. Θα συμμετάσχουν μεταξύ άλλων οι Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ricky Gervais και ο… Robert De Niro.

Τα γυρίσματα της ταινίας με τον ξανθό μυώδη ήρωα θα ξεκινήσουν μέσα στο 2008, ενώ δεν έχει ακόμα αποκαλυφθεί κάποιο στοιχείο για το σενάριο, το οποίο θα φέρει την υπογραφή του Mark Protosevich.

Αξίζει να σημειωθει ότι αυτή είναι η δεύτερη προσπάθεια του Vaughn να σκηνοθετήσει ταινία με υπερήρωες. Είχε αρχικά αναλάβει τη σκηνοθεσία του X-men 3 αλλά αποχώρησε για προσωπικούς λόγους.

Η ταινία είναι σίγουρα πρόκληση για τον άγγλο σκηνοθέτη, αν λάβουμε υπόψη το βιογραφικό του που περιλαμβάνει τελείως διαφορετικές ταινίες. Ξεκίνησε ως παραγωγός στις ταινίες του Guy Ritchie «Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels» και «Snatch» ενώ το σκηνοθετικό του ντεμπούτο ήταν το 2002 με την γκανγκστερική ταινία «Layer Cake».

Brad Pitt and Ed Norton Reteaming in State of Play

Listen to this combination of Hollywood superpowers: actors Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, director Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland), and screenwriter Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom, Lions for Lambs). The film they're all part of (in their respective roles) is titled State of Play which is based off of the British miniseries. Universal is putting the film into production starting in November after Ed Norton finishes filming The Incredible Hulk.

In State of Play, Norton will play a congressman whose speedy political rise is threatened by an investigation into the death of his mistress. Pitt plays a politico-turned-journalist whose relationship with Norton is compromised when he oversees his newspaper's investigation into the murder and develops a relationship with the Norton's estranged wife.

Expect the remainder of the cast to be announced and this project to be highlighted throughout it's development - this is a pretty big one. The script went through a number of rewrites from Michael Clayton writer/director Tony Gilroy and the most recent and final revision hooked Pitt.

Pitt and Norton starred together for the first and only time in Fight Club - and all of you know how that turned out! Although State of Play doesn't sound as riveting as Fight Club, it does sound like a political thriller that should be pretty damn good.

Ναυαγεί το σχέδιο του Ρομάν Πολάνσκι να σκηνοθετήσει την «Πομπηία»

Αποσύρθηκε ο Πολωνός σκηνοθέτης Ρομάν Πολάνσκι από τη μεταφορά στη μεγάλη οθόνη του μπεστ σέλερ του Ρόμπερτ Χάρις Πομπηία. «Δούλεψα πολύ για την 'Πομπηία' και γι' αυτό ανακοινώνω με λύπη μου την αποχώρησή μου από τη δημιουργία της ταινίας» δήλωσε.

Τα γυρίσματα της ταινίας θα ξεκινούσαν το καλοκαίρι που πέρασε. Ωστόσο, ο 74χρονος σκηνοθέτης δεν μπορούσε δεσμευθεί εξαιτίας της καθυστέρησης στην έναρξη των γυρισμάτων.

«Προκειμένου να διασφαλίσουμε ότι μια ταινία τετοιου μεγέθους θα γυριστεί όπως πρέπει, οι παραγωγοί καθυστέρησαν την έναρξη των γυρισμάτων για το καλό της όλης παραγωγής» δήλωσε εκπρόσωπος από την εταιρεία παραγωγής.

«Αν και λυπούμαστε που ο Ρόμαν δεν θα σκηνοθετήσει την ταινία, ξέρουμε ότι θα συνεργαστούμε με τον σκηνοθέτη και φίλο μας στο εγγύς μέλλον» πρόσθεσε ο ίδιος.

Το μυθιστόρημα του Ρόμπερτ Χάρις αφηγείται την ιστορία ενός νεαρού μηχανικού μετά την έκρηξη του Βεζούβιου. Ο Πολάνσκι είχε δηλώσει παλαιότερα ότι η ταινία θα βασιζόταν πολύ σε οπτικά εφέ.

Ο Τζον Στιούαρτ επιστρέφει ως παρουσιαστής της τελετής απονομής των βραβείων Όσκαρ ανακοίνωσε η Αμερικανική Ακαδημία Κινηματογράφου.

Ο 44χρονος Αμερικανός κωμικός, ο οποίος παρουσίασε ξανά τα Όσκαρ το 2006, συγκέντρωσε αντιφατικά σχόλια την τελευταία φορά. Αρκετοί τον κατηγόρησαν ότι δεν κατάφερε να μεταφέρει το κοφτερό χιούμορ της τηλεοπτικής του εκπομπής στην τελετή απονομής των βραβείων της Ακαδημίας.

«Είναι έξυπνος, γεμάτος ζωντάνια, αστείος και λατρεύει τις ταινίες» δήλωσε πάντως ο παραγωγός Τζιλ Κέιτς παρουσιάζοντας την απόφαση της Ακαδημίας. Είναι «εκπληκτικός οικοδεσπότης» δήλωσε επίσης.

Θεωρείται πιθανό η επιλογή του Στιούαρτ να έχει σχέση με το γεγονός ότι το 2008 αποτελεί τη χρονιά των αμερικανικών προεδρικών εκλογών που θα διεξαχθούν τον Νοέμβριο του 2008.

Η 80ή απονομή των βραβείων Όσκαρ θα διεξαχθεί στο Χόλιγουντ στις 24 Φεβρουαρίου 2008.

Ο Ντε Πάλμα σοκάρει με Ιράκ...

Το καινούργιο φιλμ του Μπράιαν Ντε Πάλμα, «Redacted», πρέπει να αυτολογοκριθεί μετά από συμβουλευτικές παρεμβάσεις δικηγόρων και των Καναδών παραγωγών, οι οποίοι ισχυρίζονται ότι οι ανατριχιαστικές εικόνες που εμφανίζονται στο τέλος της ταινίας μπορεί να οδηγήσουν σε μηνύσεις.

Την ίδια στιγμή ο Ντε Πάλμα κερδίζει βραβεία και επαίνους για την νέα «σκληρή» του ταινία, η οποία έχει εμπνευστεί από μια αληθινή ιστορία αμερικάνων στρατιωτών που βίασαν μια 14χρονή ιρακινή κοπέλα και μετά δολοφόνησαν ολόκληρη την οικογένεια της για να καλύψουν τα ίχνη τους.

Το φιλμ, που προβάλλεται στα πλαίσια του Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου του Τορόντο αυτήν την εβδομάδα, τελειώνει με ένα μοντάζ φωτογραφιών από πτώματα Ιρακινών πολιτών, οι οποίοι σκοτώθηκαν κατά την διάρκεια της αμερικανικής κατοχής.

Ο Ντε Πάλμα αρχικά επιθυμούσε να απεικονίζονται τα πρόσωπα των νεκρών, αλλά δικηγόροι συμβούλευσαν τους παραγωγούς να «κόψουν» αυτές τις σκηνές.

Ο αμερικάνος σκηνοθέτης δηλώνει ότι : «Το όλο ζήτημα είναι να δείξουμε τα πρόσωπα. Το αμερικανικό κράτος και τα Μ.Μ.Ε. έχουν αποκτηνώσει τον ιρακινό λαό. Αυτό που ήθελα να δείξω με αυτό το φιλμ είναι τον τρόμο του πολέμου και τι υπέστη ο πληθυσμός της χώρας από αυτόν. Με ενοχλεί πάρα πολύ ότι οι δικηγόροι δεν μπορούν να το καταλάβουν αυτό».

Ο Ντε Πάλμα συνεχίζει λέγοντας ότι : «οι δικηγόροι ισχυρίζονται ότι οι οικογένειες των νεκρών που απεικονίζονται στην ταινία, μπορούν να μας μηνύσουν. Αλλά το νόημα είναι να δει ο κόσμος τα πρόσωπα. Τότε το κοινό θα εξοργιστεί, όπως εγώ...»

Ο πόλεμος στο Ιράκ δεν ήταν απλώς μια πολεμική επιχείρηση για τις Η.Π.Α. Το Ιράκ παραμένει μια ανοιχτή πληγή για την αμερικάνικη κοινωνία, η οποία όσο περνάνε τα χρόνια και αποκαλύπτονται τα μακάβρια εγκλήματα ενός παράλογου πολέμου θα προκαλεί αλυσιδωτές αντιδράσεις.

Τα Μ.Μ.Ε. και ο νεο-συντηρητισμός της κυβέρνησης των Η.Π.Α. θα κρύβουν εντέχνως τα αποτελέσματα ενός αποτρόπαιου πολέμου. Όμως, το χρέος κάθε καλλιτέχνη είναι να αποκαλύπτει, να προκαλεί και να πυροδοτεί συζητήσεις με το έργο του, όπως ο Ντε Πάλμα...

O Λάρι Γουατσόφσκι έγινε γυναίκα...

Αριστερά ο Λάρι τώρα... Δεξιά ο Λάρι λίγα χρόνια πριν...

Οι δημιουργοί της ταινίας «Matrix» αδελφοί Γουατσόφσκι, ίσως δεν πρέπει να θεωρούνται πια γένους αρσενικού. Δεν εννοούμε φυσικά τον Άντι, ο οποίος δεν φαίνεται (προς το παρόν) να θέλει να αλλάξει το φύλο του. Η όλη συζήτηση που έχει ξεκινήσει από την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα αφορά τον Λάρι Γουατσόφσκι...

Ο αμερικάνος σκηνοθέτης από το Σικάγο το τελευταίο χρόνο έχει υποστεί κάποιες «μικρές» αλλαγές στην εμφάνιση του. Για την ακρίβεια ο Λάρι έχει αρχίσει όλο και πιο πολύ να μοιάζει με γυναίκα. Σύμφωνα με δημοσιεύματα, ο αδελφός Γουατσόφσκι βρίσκεται σε προχωρημένο στάδιο αλλαγής φύλου, ενώ ίσως και να έχει ολοκληρώσει την όλη διαδικασία. Την συζήτηση πυροδότησε μια τελευταία εμφάνιση του Λάρι, όπου τα θηλυκά στοιχεία υπερείχαν έναντι των αρσενικών. Πολλά κινηματογραφικά έντυπα και site μιλούν για την μεταμόρφωση του Λάρι σε Λάρα.

Επιπλέον προχωρούν ένα βήμα παραπάνω λέγοντας ότι ο σκηνοθέτης δεν θα εμφανιστεί δημόσια μέχρι την πρεμιέρα της καινούργιας του ταινίας «Speed Racer», για να μην πληγώσει τους γονείς του. Όλη την προώθηση του καινούργιου φιλμ θα αναλάβει ο Άντι Γουατσόφσκι και μετά την πρεμιέρα ο Λάρι θα προβεί στην αποκάλυψη της καινούργια του ταυτότητας.

Από την άλλη πλευρά, το δίκτυο Fox απορρίπτει αυτούς τους ισχυρισμούς. Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα του δεν υφίσταται θέμα «Λάρα Γουατσόφσκι». Η αλήθεια είναι πάντως ότι ο Λάρι τουλάχιστον το τελευταίο χρόνο έχει μεταμορφωθεί πλήρως, γεγονός που αποδεικνύεται και από το φωτογραφικό υλικό. Το μυστήριο για το φύλο του αμερικάνου σκηνοθέτη μάλλον θα πλανάται για αρκετό καιρό ακόμα...

Director Matthew Vaughn on Marvel's Thor


Matthew Vaughn, who launched his directing career with Layer Cake in 2004 and followed it up with Neil Gaiman's Stardust this year, is already hard at work on his next film - Marvel's Thor. We've mentioned the project as one of the many in the works from Marvel, but this is one of the first times Vaughn has spoken out about it and the style he's going for with the superhero.

The interview comes from Empire Online, who gives a good overview of the comic book film and discusses some details with Vaughn.

When I went into Marvel for my first X-Men meeting, I saw a figure on the desk and said 'are you guys are going to make Thor?’

They said, 'We're just going to commission a script. We want to do it like Gladiator with Norse mythology and the birth of a superhero.’

That really stuck in my mind. And when Marvel saw Stardust, they asked me to do it. So here I am, back again and prepping Thor."

My only concern initially was that it's another fantasy film [after Stardust], but it's different in the sense that it's a superhero film set in the world of fantasy.

You've got Thor and Odin and it's set in Asgard - it's not going to be like Lord of the Rings or even Narnia.

I think it's important to keep it comic book. We're not doing the Thor of Norse mythology.

We're doing the Marvel Thor."

Paramount Confirms Transformers 2 for 2009!

I've been following SlashFilm's continued coverage of the debate over whether Michael Bay would be making Transformers 2 by 2009 or not. There is so much that is making the whole situation fuzzy, specifically the issue of time (it took 12 months from start to finish to make Transformers) and the impending strike next summer. Paramount has confirmed today (via BoxOfficeMojo and ComingSoon) that Transformers 2 has been set for release on June 29, 2009. This doesn't help the situation, in fact it makes it worse, but at least the studio is committed to a 2009 release.

Reports currently state that Michael Bay is attempting to film another movie before the strike next year. This means he would have to complete it from start to finish before starting on Transformers 2 and having that completed by June 2009. There is where it gets a bit hazy. Can Michael Bay really complete two entire movies in nearly 21 months time? It took a full 2 years between his last movie (The Island) and Transformers. Is Paramount trying to push Transformers 2 and get that off the ground before he can take on the other project?

Η τεράστια επιτυχία των Transformers φαίνεται να προκαλεί το ενδιαφέρον των παραγωγών που ξεθάβουν ό,τι βρουν μπροστά τους με στόχο να γεμίσουν τα ταμεία λεφτά. Αφού τα κινούμενα σχέδια - ρομπότ - γραφικά πουλάνε, ήταν θέμα χρόνου μέχρι να πέσει στο τραπέζι η ιδέα για την μεταφορά του Voltron: Defender of the Universe στην μεγάλη οθόνη. Το concept του κινούμενου σχεδίου που έπαιζε και στην ελληνική τηλεόραση, και θα μεταφερθεί στο cinema περιέχει 5 πιλότους ρομποτικών λιονταριών που όταν ο κίνδυνος είναι μεγάλος ενώνονται για να σχηματίσουν το υπέρρομπότ Voltron με σκοπό την προστασία του πλανήτη.

Η ταινία έχει ήδη θέση στο IMDB με τίτλο Voltron ( 2008 ) και αναμένεται με μεγάλο ενδιαφέρον.

What Neill Blomkamp's Halo Movie Looks Like - Halo: Arms Race Shorts!

In honor of the release of Halo 3 today, I thought I'd cater a bit to the masses who are currently crowded around their TVs and serve up some Halo media.

All last year we kept bringing you details on the Halo movie that was aiming for a 2008 release until the studios backed out.

If you might have forgotten, this project was under the wing of Peter Jackson (who is producing) and the most shocking news was when he announced that the very new filmmaker Neill Blomkamp would be directing.

Although the film hasn't really moved forward, Microsoft and WETA Workshop went ahead and had Blomkamp create few digital shorts to market the game's release today.

If you want to get a real sense of how the Halo movie might look, then you definitely want to watch these videos!
