Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Getting Cut in Two and Yates Directing

Harry Potter producer David Barron was inserting an additional scene into the currently in-production Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - an unconventional move since the Potter series' sheer volume has more often necessitated cutting material.

While we don't yet expect a similar move with the seventh book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, we did receive news today via the LA Times that director David Yates is confronting the Potter material in an equally interesting way: cutting the final story into two movies.

Heavy Metal Returning to the Big Screen Under David Fincher

Heavy Metal, the 1970s sci-fi fantasy magazine and subsequent 1981 movie, is returning to the big screen again. Fight Club's David Fincher is spearheading the animated film which will feature eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which will be directed by a different person, similar to Animatrix. While the return of Heavy Metal could be prone to utter destruction in anyone else's hands, the fact that the visionary filmmaker David Fincher is the one spearheading the entire project actually means this could become something very unique.

Confirmed directors creating segments so far include: David Fincher, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator and Heavy Metal owner Kevin Eastman, and Blur Studios' Tim Miller. Remaining directors have yet to be announced. The film is already being referred to as an R-rated, adult-themed feature. The segments will, of course, be inspired by the erotic and violent storylines and images found in the magazine. The aforementioned Blur Studios is also handling all of the animation, which means the visual style most likely will be similar across all of the segments.

This definitely sounds like a project that will turn out fairly awesome. I'm excited to see how this comes together and learn what stories Fincher and company choose to adapt. I'm wondering who else would be a good fit as a director: Henry Selick, Ridley Scott, Alfonso Cuarón, Richard Kelly, or even Steven Spielberg?

Metal Gear Solid Movie in the Works - Kurt Wimmer Being Confronted

We still haven't seen a quality video game movie yet, which is unfortunately disheartening because there are so many great video games out there. Jerry Bruckheimer's Prince of Persia is one of a few coming up in the next few years that could finally break that mold. One of the other ones that everyone has their sights on is Metal Gear Solid, Konami's best-selling video game about the adventures of elite US special ops solider Solid Snake. ComingSoon recently caught up with producer Michael De Luca, who confirmed that they're trying to get the movie back in gear and are talking to Equilibrium director Kurt Wimmer.

De Luca confirms that they're now trying to move forward on the project now that the writer's strike is over. The first step is obviously getting a script written, but unfortunately no writers have been mentioned yet. However, De Luca said that "they hope to meet with [Kurt] Wimmer in the next few weeks to talk about him writing the script (and presumably directing)." While we can expect more official announcements in the near future, at least a movie is in the works and De Luca is pushing to try and get the ball rolling again.

Kurt Wimmer is a filmmaker who made one hell of a directorial debut with the cult classic sci-fi film Equilibrium in 2002. Before that he only wrote the scripts for movies like The Wolves, Sphere, and The Thomas Crown Affair. Wimmer went on to write and direct Ultraviolet in 2006 and also wrote the script for the upcoming Street Kings.

Initially Wimmer was the guy that "fans wanted" to direct a Metal Gear Solid movie after Equilibrium had hit. Unfortunately I don't think he'd turn out a great script because of how bad Ultraviolet was. As much as I loved Equilibrium, that was his first movie and I really didn't like the story or script, only the fighting and visuals. And all in the same, this isn't confirmed - De Luca is only talking to him, and it could end up that he has absolutely nothing to do with the film.

Frank Miller Talks Will Eisner's The Spirit


Will Eisner's The Spirit writer/director Frank Miller has updated the movie's official website with a fourth Production Blog, in which he talks about the adaptation of The Spirit's main love interest Ellen Dolan from the pages of Eisner's comic series, to Miller's vision on film.

The character is played by the always great Sarah Paulson ("Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") in the movie.

Όταν ανακοινώνεται ότι ο Αλεχάντρο Αμενάμπαρ ετοιμάζει κάτι καινούργιο, αξίζει να ρίξεις μια ματιά. Κατά πρώτον, γιατί ο Χιλιανός σκηνοθέτης δεν είναι ακριβώς αυτό που θα ονομάζαμε εργασιομανής, έχοντας κάνει μόλις δυο ταινίες μέσα στα ‘00s. Επίσης, ο Λατινοαμερικάνος μας έχει κακομάθει ήδη από τη δεκαετία του ’90 με το «Tesis», που το είδαμε πρόσφατα σε επανακυκλοφορία στην Ελλάδα και φυσικά με το «Abre Los Ojos». Το πέρασμα του από το Χόλιγουντ με τους «Άλλους» παρότι ήταν εμπορικά επιτυχημένο, δεν μπορείς να πεις ότι είναι και η καλύτερη ταινία του.

Ο Αμενάμπαρ μετά τις υπερκαταθλιπτικές θαλλασοπεριπέτειες του καταπιάνεται τώρα με την Αρχαία Αίγυπτο και την ελληνικής καταγωγής Υπατία της Αλεξάνδρειας. Το ιστορικό πρόσωπο που έζησε στην κατακτημένη από τους Ρωμαίους Αρχαία Αίγυπτο, ήταν από τις πρώτες γυναίκες που έγιναν γνωστές για την επιστημονική τους κατάρτιση. Η πολυάσχολη Υπατία υπήρξε μαθηματικός και φιλόσοφος, ενώ επίσης ασχολήθηκε και με την αστρονομία. Ο Αμενάμπαρ, λοιπόν, βρήκε στο πρόσωπο της την καινούργια του μούσα και κάθισε μαζί με τον κολλητό του και μόνιμο σεναριογράφο των ταινιών του Ματέο Χιλ, για να γράψουν σε χαρτί τις σεκάνς του αρχαιοτρόπου «Agora».

Οι Χιλιανοί δημιουργοί, λοιπόν, στη συνέχεια έτρεξαν να κλείσουν την Ρέιτσελ Βάις και να την ντύσουν με λευκούς χιτώνες. Η πανέμορφη Λονδρέζα ηθοποιός θα προσπαθήσει να συλλέξει την γνώση των Αρχαίων Πολιτισμών και να την διαφυλάξει από την επερχόμενη επίθεση που θα δεχτούν αυτοί, από την επέλαση του Χριστιανισμού. Το καινούργιο cine sex symbol που μας έρχεται από την Βρετανία, Μαξ Μιγκέλα («Συριάνα»), θα υποδυθεί τον σκλάβο της Υπατίας, ο οποίος αμφιταλαντεύεται ανάμεσα στις αρχές της αφεντικίνας του και την ελευθερία που θα του χαρίσει ο Χριστιανισμός.

Παρόλο που το «Agora» είναι αγγλόφωνο, η παραγωγή του θα είναι καθαρά ισπανική με την εταιρία του Φερνάντο Μποβάιρα, Mod Prods, να κάνει ποδαρικό στην κινηματογραφική αγορά. Πάντως, το concept για την δημιουργία μιας επικής ταινίας με σημείο αναφοράς την Αρχαία Αίγυπτο είναι ριψοκίνδυνο για τον Αμενάμπαρ. Η θεματολογία του «Agora» είναι αρκετά στρυφνή, ιδιαίτερα εμπορικά. Βέβαια, ο Αμενάμπαρ ξέρει καλύτερα.

Spielberg to direct first TinTin, Jackson Second !

Peter Jackson and Steven Speilberg have announced that their TinTin Trilogy project is well underway and they have announced their choice for directors. Each other.

As you may remember, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are collaborating to bring the popular Tintin series to life.

Now comes the news, from a recent Andy Serkis interview, that Spielberg intends to tackle the first film and Jackson the second.

No one yet knows who might be directing the third film.

Crank 3 Going 3D with Bullet-Time?!

We previously announced that Crank 2: High Voltage is in the works, but now the plot thickens - they're also making Crank 3! And that's not it - it's going to be in 3D, too! Steve over at Collider caught up with filmmakers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who told him about their ideas for trilogy, including a groundbreaking new moving bullet-time camera system that they're using in Crank 2. If you thought these guys pushed the limits with the first Crank, just wait until you hear what they're working on now.

Mark Neveldine first talked about their ideas for Crank 3. It's not 100% confirmed that they'll go 3D, but it sounds like if the technology advances by the time they start working on it, that's the way they'll go.

"We were actually thinking of trying to do RED 3D for Game for a while. We think it's the way things are going. The problem for us is that the rigs are still a little too cumbersome. They're a bit too big. So for 3D you tend to have a lot of locked off shots, things on cranes, things that are very controlled. We just don't shoot that way man, we like to just pick up the camera and run and go berserk and it doesn't really lend itself to 3D right now."

The RED camera system they're talking about is the latest and greatest behind-the-scenes hot thing in Hollywood. It's a high definition digital system that was design by the guy who founded Oakley, and is of the absolute utmost quality (currently unattainable with other professional digital cameras). To learn more about it, head to red.com. Mark and Brian were actually one of the first to use the cameras on Game, the Gerard Butler action film they already finished shooting.

Another one of the ridiculously interesting things they mentioned that should get any movie geek excited is the bullet-time rig they're developing. Mark explains what they're trying to do:

"We're pushing the limits… We're going to be creating a moving bullet[-time] camera that has never been done before. We're putting about 15 cameras onto a piece of speed rail, all these super lightweight cameras that I'll be holding on rollerblades flying around people. So you'll have that image that you've seen in the Matrix, where they stop motion and the cameras spin around, except for the fact that our cameras can spin around and move while the actor moves."

A typical bullet-time rig (as they used in Matrix) consists of upwards of around 100 still cameras rigged around a green screen set. To shoot the scene, each camera shoots one frame to fill in roughly ~30 frames per second of video, and the computer works out the rest (and fills in any gaps). What it sounds like Mark and Brian are trying to do is develop a similar system with cameras rigged to a rail, but build it so that it can be moved with the actor. He even goes as far as to mention the idea of strapping on rollerblades while shooting with it, although I'm guessing a mechanical or hydraulic system would have better (visual) results.



In theory, this sounds like it could be great - an action sequence that implements practical bullet-time that flies in and out and moves around the person while they're "in action" or fighting. Think about Matrix, but if the entire person was moving or running or flying through the air and yet the bullet-time continued. Get it now? Now are you saying to yourself "that's frickin' awesome" like we all are?

Star Trek Set Report and Photos

The new 'Star Trek' movie began filming at Cal State Northridge today.

Looks like they are filming a scene at an academy/school because everyone is dressed in same crimson uniform.

There is also a very cool car/cart that was driven onto the set, looks like miniature 3-wheeled version of Mach 5/ Star Trek insignia.

James Mangold to Direct Cyclops

Warner Bros. has acquired film rights to the Alexis Nolent graphic novel "Cyclops" and will develop it as a feature vehicle for director James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma), reports Variety.

Cathy Konrad will produce with Alexandra Milchan.

Set in the near future, the actioner concerns mercenary forces whose soldiers wear Cyclops-like cameras in their helmets and broadcast in real time to both central command and living rooms. One mercenary chosen to lead an elite squad begins to realize he isn't fighting for freedom and justice as much as for commerce.

"It is an electrifying package you find in the best sci-fi: great action sequences combined with themes that are eminently foreseeable," Mangold told the trade.

Said Konrad: "This is something that Warner Bros. wants to move very quickly on. We already have a shortlist of screenwriters and will be out to people in the next week."

The Director of VERY BAD THINGS, THE RUNDOWN and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Is Directing Frank Herbert's DUNE For Paramount!!

Peter Berg is attached to direct a bigscreen adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel "Dune" for Paramount Pictures.

Kevin Misher, who spent the past year obtaining the book rights from the Herbert estate, will produce via his Par-based shingle.

Herbert's 1965 novel is a sweeping, futuristic tale set on the remote desert planet Arrakis, which produces the interstellar empire's sole source of the spice Melange -- used for distant space travel. An empirewide power struggle ensues over the control of the spice. Berg would be the latest helmer to take a crack at the property, which spawned a 1984 David Lynch film as well as a 2000 Sci Fi Channel miniseries starring William Hurt.

The project is out to writers, with the producers looking for a faithful adaptation of the Hugo- and Nebula Award-winning book. The filmmakers consider its theme of finite ecological resources particularly timely.

New Amsterdam's Richard Rubenstein, who produced Sci Fi's "Dune" and sequel "Children of Dune," is also producing alongside Sarah Aubrey of Film 44, Berg's production banner. John Harrison and Mike Messina exec produce.

Paramount envisions the project as a tentpole film.

Berg and Misher enjoy strong ties dating back to Misher's executive days at Universal Pictures. Misher also produced Berg's second directorial outing, "The Rundown."

Actor-turned-helmer Berg most recently directed the upcoming Will Smith starrer "Hancock." His directing credits include "The Kingdom" and "Friday Night Lights."

DreamWorks fires up 'Dragon' cast join animated pic

Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel and Christopher Mintz-Plasse will voice "How to Train Your Dragon" for DreamWorks Animation.

Peter Hastings will helm the feature toon, and Bonnie Arnold is producing.

Comic adventure is set in a mythical world and centers on a scrawny teenage Viking who must capture and subdue a wild dragon. Story is based on the book by Cressida Cowell.

Project marks the second film the studio will produce in Ultimate 3-D; the first is "Monsters vs. Aliens." "Dragon" is slated for a domestic release on March 26, 2010.

Το «Pathology» είναι μια ιδιαίτερη περίπτωση torture porn ή ταινιών που περιέχουν σεξ και υπερβολική σπλατεριά. Ενώ τα φιλμ που καθιέρωσαν τον όρο στη κινηματογραφική πιάτσα, όπως το «Hostel» και το «Saw», περίμεναν να παγιδέψουν πρώτα τα ανυποψίαστα θύματα τους και μετά να τους βασανίσουν ζωντανούς, στο «Pathology» η κτηνωδία ξεκινάει ουσιαστικά μετά το θάνατο.

Στην συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση μιλάμε για επιστήμονες ανθρώπους (wannabe γιατρούς), που κάνουν έναν αθώο διαγωνισμό για το ποιός θα διαπράξει το τέλειο έγκλημα. Το πάρτι, όμως, ξεκινά μετά το γρήγορο θάνατο. Τα μάτια, οι καρδιές και τα συκώτια των νεκρών κάνουν βόλτες στο νεκροτομείο, ενώ το σιδερένιο κρύο κρεβάτι της λευκής αίθουσας μετατρέπεται σε τόπο οργίου.

To trailer είναι ακατάλληλο για ανηλίκους.

Οφείλουμε να προειδοποιήσουμε το κοινό ότι το trailer του «Pathology» δεν ενδείκνυται για ανθρώπους με υπερβολικές ευαισθησίες. Αν δεν μπορείτε να αντέξετε το άνοιγμα του «Nip/Tuck» με τα νυστέρια να σκίζουν βλέφαρα, αυτιά και οτιδήποτε άλλο χρειάζεται την επέμβαση του Δόκτορα Κρίστιαν Τρόι για να ομορφύνει, τότε δεν πρέπει σε καμία περίπτωση να πατήσετε play σε αυτό το κλιπάκι.

Funny Games στην ΤV με Ναόμι Γουότς

Why don't you just kill us?" ρωτάει απελπισμένα η Αν τους διεστραμμένους νεαρούς που τους κρατάνε ομήρους. "You shouldn't forget the importance of entertainment" της απαντάει γελώντας ο ένας εκ των δύο διεστραμμένων νεαρών απαγωγέων.

Σαν να μη συμβαίνει τίποτα το φοβερό. "Funny Games" πιο ακατάλληλα δε γίνεται για ανηλίκους, αφού κάθε άλλο παρά αστεία δεν είναι κι εδώ θα δεις το τηλεοπτικό σποτάκι της ταινίας του Μικαέλ Χάνεκε, η οποία "αμερικανοποιήθηκε" και άλλαξε βέβαια (γενναίους) παίχτες -πρωταγωνιστές.

Η Ναόμι Γουότς, γι' άλλη μια φορά δεν περνάει και πολύ καλά στο πλατό, αφού κακοποιείται, ρίχνει το κλάμα της ζωής της, αναγκάζεται να παίξει σαδομαζοχιστικά παιχνίδια, αποτελώντας ψυχαγωγία για τους απαγωγείς της.

Όμως, όλα αυτά βέβαια δεν τα περνάει μόνη της, αλλά μαζί με το σύζυγο Τιμ Ροθ και τον δεκάχρονο γιο τους. Ο Μάικλ Πιτ -κλασσική αντιπαθέστατη φάτσα- έχει όλα τα προσόντα του κακού της ιστορίας, ο οποίος μαζί με τον Μπράντυ Κορμπέτ αποφασίζουν να δώσουν ένα νόημα στις βαρετές τους διακοπές και αντί για μπαλάκια να χτυπήσουν κάτι άλλο με τα μπαστουνάκια του γκολφ.

Πρέπει να έχει πολύ γερά νεύρα και ίχνος ευαισθησίας για ν' αντέξεις να δεις το συγκεκριμένο θρίλερ. Ψυχολογικός και σωματικός πόλεμος, παράνοια, διαστροφή, φρίκη...Και το παιχνίδι είναι απλό: "Άμπε μπα μπλόμ".

Clint Eastwood's Next is Gran Torino


Clint Eastwood will next direct and star in Gran Torino for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures. Variety says the film is scheduled for a December release.

The trade adds that details of "Torino" are being kept under tantalizingly tight wraps. Existence of the film, and Eastwood's role, were only revealed on Tuesday when Warner quietly dated the movie for sometime in December.

Producers are Rob Lorenz, Eastwood's partner at Malpaso Productions, and Billy Gerber. Executive producers are Jenette Kahn and Adam Richman at Double Nickel Ent.

Raimi, Paramount to Revive Jack Ryan

Paramount Pictures is in negotiations with Sam Raimi to spearhead a franchise revival of Jack Ryan, the Tom Clancy-created CIA analyst character who drove four hit movies for the studio, says Variety.

Raimi would develop and direct a series of films to be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Raimi's Buckaroo Entertainment partner Josh Donen.

The intention is to generate several films Raimi would develop and direct, featuring Ryan at a younger, more formative point in his career than previously depicted. One invention the studio is considering is to set the film in the present, with the action triggered by a global threat.

Paramount will draft a screenwriter to write a Ryan movie that Raimi would shoot after he completes the Universal horror film Drag Me to Hell. Paramount wants the Ryan movie ready for release in summer 2010.

Alec Baldwin originated Ryan in 1990's The Hunt for Red October. Harrison Ford played the character in 1992's Patriot Games and 1994's Clear and Present Danger. Ben Affleck played Ryan in 2002's The Sum of All Fears.

While Clancy is completing another Ryan novel, the studio hasn't read it and so hasn't decided if it will use the new book or come up with an original story. Paramount controls rights to the Ryan character, and gets first look at the new novel.
