First Look at The Book of Eli

USA Today has posted a first look at five new photos from Allen and Albert Hughes' The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, Jennifer Beals and Evan Jones. Opening January 15, 2010, the sci-fi drama revolves around a lone warrior (Washington) who must fight to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption.

Oldman has been set to portray the despot of a small makeshift town who's determined to take possession of the book Eli's guarding.

Fox Hires a Commercials Director for Their Alien Reboot?

It looks like Fox is getting a bit desperate. Not only are they moving forward on the Robert Rodriguez Predators reboot, but it looks as if the rumored Alien reboot is officially moving forward as well. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Fox has hired Carl Rinsch, a commercial and music video director, to helm the new Alien. The only good news is that apparently Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott are all on-board to produce via their own Scott Free Productions. Rinsch has apparently worked for Scott Free as well and isn't necessarily an outsider.

Word is that this reboot, as it's being called, will be more of an origin story as opposed to a straight-up remake. The plan is supposedly to "stick with the original concept of only one alien on the ship." I don't care if they've got Ridley Scott involved (which confirms what Tom Rothman was saying in April about bringing him back), this is probably going to turn out terrible. Just look at what Fox did with Alien vs Predator; then they tried to reboot that with Aliens vs Predator: Requiem and it was even worse. Does anyone really think that by rebooting Alien we're going to see anything that even lives up to Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection?

This isn't confirmed by the studio yet, it's only an early scoop from BD. But I have a feeling that Fox is desperate to move forward on this and they asked Ridley to find a director that he liked (instead of risking it with someone they would choose).

Legion

For those of you who are just hearing about the project for the first time, Legion is an upcoming post-apocalyptic film that follows a few survivors on the day that God decides to abandon humanity and let all the nasty demons who've been trying to get a hold of our mortal souls have their wish. Until now, that's basically all anyone's known about the project. However, we just received a bunch of info about the film including a complete plot outline, and a word from the director on what we can expect the film to look and feel like. It basically put our geese all in a gander so we thought we'd share what we've learned with you.

Scott Stewart on Legion's influences:

"I conceived LEGION more as a comic book action movie than a straight horror film. Despite the obvious horror elements, my primary influence when writing it was less DAWN OF THE DEAD or 28 DAYS LATER, and more the original TERMINATOR with its blend of intense action and inventive mythology.

Without warning, on the night of December 23rd, the prisoners inside a Los Angeles jail go berserk, tearing each other apart. Only one is left standing: MIKE. Meanwhile, in the tiny Mojave desert town of Paradise Falls, JEEP HANSEN awakens from yet another fever dream and begins to draw. His walls are covered with nightmarish visions of fantastic creatures and heroes, including demon lord BELIAL and a mysterious figure... who looks an awful lot like MIKE.

Later that day while Jeep is working on a car the sky darkens. a mysterious black car arrives and the elderly GLADYS emerges. Inside the diner, BOB, pregnant actress CHARLIE, the LYMANS, cook PERCY, and suspicious patron KYLE watch Gladys eat a rare and bloody steak. Gladys then revels herself to be a hideous creature and attacks Howard and Bob. Kyle kills her with his .45. The diner is surrounded by thousands of flies, the power goes out and the group is trapped inside.

Mike arrives in a police car and distributes weapons to the group. He reveals that they are witnessing the first signs of a war between humans and a horde of the devil's minions. The demon-creatures converge on the diner and attack. The group fights back. While awaiting the next onslaught, Jeep finds a transmission on the radio explaining that all of human kind is under siege by demons. Apparently Las Vegas is the only haven left. Amidst the chaos, Charlie's water suddenly breaks and Audrey helps her deliver a baby boy.

In an acrobatic and action-packed finale Mike and Belial...

Paul Verhoeven to Make The Surrogate

Dutch director Paul Verhoeven (Black Book) will develop and direct 20th Century Fox thriller The Surrogate. Ralph Winter is producing via his Winter Road production company along with Deborah Giarratana, Robin Guthrie and Susana Zepeda.

Based on the 2004 book by Kathryn Mackel, the story centers on a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane.

Roderick Taylor and Bruce Taylor wrote the original draft.

Verhoeven's credits include RoboCop, Total Recall and Basic Instinct. He is also developing The Winter Queen, with Milla Jovovich attached to star.

Carl Rinsch Confirmed as Director for Fox's Alien Prequel

A few days back, news started to spread across the web that Carl Rinsch, a commercials and music video director for Scott Free Productions, had been hired to take over the Alien franchise for a reboot.

It was initially reported as a rumor, but Collider caught up with Tony Scott this weekend and received some official confirmation. "Yes, Carl Rinsch is going to do the prequel to Alien," Scott told them.

"I'm excited cause Ridley created the original and Carl Rinsch is one of the family." It's great to hear that Rinsch is confirmed, but it's also interesting to hear him call it a prequel, not a sequel or reboot or remake.

How about that?

Wanted Producers Acquire Dear Dracula

Kickstart Entertainment has picked up the rights to the 2008 Image/Shadowline comic book "Dear Dracula" by writer Joshua Williamson. Vincente Navarrete illustrated the 48-page volume released through Silverline.

Most definitely a kids tale, "Dracula" concerns a horror-lovin' boy who decides to write to the famous bloodsucker on Halloween just as anyone his age would write to Santa Claus. Initially, the project was to be developed as a stop-motion film, however, now the producers have opted to make it a CGI feature.

Williamson and Navarrete are penning the script for Kickstart, a production outfit which also produced Wanted. "We've kept everything from the book and expanded on it. If people enjoyed the book, they’re going to love the movie," Williamson tells Comic Book Resources in a recent interview.

BARBARELLA IS COMING !

Rob Luketic is now working with Dino De Laurentiis' company (which owns the rights to the property) to develop the movie with a different studio (instead of Universal).

"It will be a big intergalactic adventure with a sexy twist,"EW's insider says. I liked having Rodriguez remaking this, but maybe Luketic can do a good job as well.

Gore Verbinski May Not Direct BioShock

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times about his video game production company Blind Wink, "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski elaborated further on the recent news that the BioShock movie was halted in the middle of pre-production.

"The bottom line is it has to shoot out of the States for budget reasons and my schedule may be prohibitive," said Verbinski. "There's a great script and a really interesting cast. It really comes down to the financial model now. Big movies are just not being shot in the States. I'm weighing whether I can physically go the U.K. or Australia or one of those other places with a tax rebate for a year-and-a-half."

Η Angelina Jolie τραυματίστηκε κατά τη διάρκεια των γυρισμάτων της νέας της ταινίας, "Salt", και μεταφέρθηκε στο νοσοκομείο.

Όπως έγινε γνωστό η εντυπωσιακή σταρ τραυματίστηκε ελαφρά στο κεφάλι ενώ γύριζε μία σκηνή δράσης για την ταινία της την Παρασκευή, 29 Μαΐου, στη Νέα Υόρκη. Η διάσημη ηθοποιός μεταφέρθηκε αμέσως στο νοσοκομείο για προληπτικούς λόγους. Λίγο αργότερα την ίδια ημέρα η Jolie επέστρεψε ξανά στα γυρίσματα της ταινίας.

Στην ταινία η Jolie υποδύεται την Evelyn A.Salt. Ποια είναι η αληθινή Evelyn A.Salt, πράκτορας της CIA που προσπαθεί να αποκαταστήσει το όνομά της; Κανείς δεν ξέρει. Αυτό είναι και το μεγάλο μυστήριο της ταινίας, την οποία σκηνοθετεί ο Philip Noyce. Στο "Salt" η Jolie συμπρωταγωνιστεί με τον Liev Schreiber, ο οποίος ενσαρκώνει τον σύμμαχο και επιτηρητή της στο γραφείο της CIA στη Μόσχα.
